Schedule of Training Sessions:
Prior to training registration, all applicants must submit an Application for
Membership, Liability Waiver and have fully paid their membership dues.
Classes are held April through the middle of September and are
taught by the certified instructor team at
KayakTraining.com. Training
locations vary so please consult our Membership Services Coordinator, Brad Nelson, at
info@cantonkayakclub.com
to make arrangements.
Before receiving the access codes for our kayaks, each new member
must complete an introductory level safety class. The class runs two
and a half hours and includes kayaking basics as well as essential
safety information and club regulations. Even if you are an
experienced kayaker, you must complete this training. Upon
completion of the class you will be given a membership ID and the
combination to the locks.
Participants must register for classes in advance – no walk-ins
accepted. There is no fee for your first scheduled class - it is included in the
cost of your membership. However, applicants will be charged $25
if they fail to show for a class or cancel their registration less
than 48 hours in advance. Class size is limited to 12
participants. The CKC reserves the right to cancel any class that
does not have a minimum of 6 participants.
The class covers launching and landing, basic paddle strokes, kayak
nomenclature and paddle nomenclature and grip. Because the Club’s
kayaks are docked in Baltimore’s harbor, the class will also address
how to climb in and out of a kayak from a dock as well as important
safety information specific to kayaking in the harbor.
